Vintage Kitchen Sinks

If you are looking to add some vintage décor to your kitchen, a big but useful investment would be a vintage kitchen sink.  This may be hard to find, but it will be well worth the search.  Along with finding a sink that goes along with your kitchen décor, you will need to find one made by a good craftsman.  However, even though they are rather large investments, vintage kitchen sinks are making a comeback as decorators’ and collectors’ items.

You can find a good antique kitchen sink from a variety of eras, especially eras in American history, but there are also some sinks from Europe to be found.  Sinks from the 1800s into the early 1900s are often made from excellent solid materials such as marble, porcelain, fireclay, or copper.  Many of these are European sinks, from France or Italy.  It is much harder to find sinks from the early to mid 1900s, because these sinks are often in disrepair and no longer useable.  However, sinks from the 1920s and 1930s can be found and used as your regular kitchen sink.

Finding a vintage kitchen sink is an excellent way to ensure that you will have a quality sink.  If it has lasted this long, the sink will probably last for many more years in constant use.  Many sinks are made of cast iron and covered in enamel, which is strong and also stores heat well.  These kinds of sinks are often made with rounded edges.  Other vintage sinks are made of stone, which is perhaps the most durable of any sink-building material.

Vintage kitchen sinks are becoming more popular with collectors, and also with people who want a trendy new style in their kitchen.  Steel sinks have a flat bottom, and are often large.  Porcelain sinks have a nice backsplash.  These were originally crafted by such companies as Kohler’s, Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company, and Wolff Manufacturing Company, some of which are still in business today.  Decide what kind of vintage sink would go great in your kitchen, and you will probably be able to find a solid and useful sink that adds perfectly to your décor.
